Familial Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease without Periodic

چکیده
Four members of a kindred wi th Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease are reported, i n whom myoclonus d id not develop and in whom serial electroencephalograms performed late in their illness failed to show periodic sharp wave complexes. Otherwise, the patients’ disease duration, clinical features, and neuropathological findings were similar to those described in sporadic cases of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Our findings and those reported by others suggest that periodic electroencephalographic activity may be rqre i n familial forms of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, as i t is i n other slow transmissible encephalopathies.

Spreading brain lesions in a familial Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease with V180I mutation over 4 years
BACKGROUND We report a female patient with familial Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease with V180I mutation (fCJD with V180I), who was serially followed up with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG) for up to four years. CASE PRESENTATION At 6 months after the onset, diffusion-weighted images (DWI) and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) of brain MRI revealed an increa...
متن کاملCreutzfeldt-Jakob disease: A case report
Background: Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) as a life-threatening neurodegenerative disorder is not usually diagnosed in early stages of the disease because of a variety in its clinical manifestations. This study aimed to present a middle-aged woman with psychiatric symptoms who ultimately was diagnosed as a CJD case. Case presentation: This 48-year-old woman had progressive symptoms of depres...
متن کاملEEG–EMG polygraphic study of dystonia and myoclonus in a case of Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease☆
We report on a patient with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) who showed dystonia, periodic myoclonus, and periodic sharp wave complexes (PSWCs) on EEG. The EEG-EMG polygraphic study revealed that dystonia appeared without relation to periodic myoclonus and PSWCs and that dystonia EMGs were strongly suppressed after periodic myoclonus EMGs. These findings suggest that dystonia has a path...
متن کاملNonvasculitic autoimmune inflammatory meningoencephalitis imitating Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.
BACKGROUND Nonvasculitic autoimmune inflammatory meningoencephalitis and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease can present as rapidly progressive encephalopathies with similar clinical features. Slowing of background rhythm is an electroencephalographic characteristic shown by both, but persistent periodic sharp waves are more specific for Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and have not been reported in nonvasculit...
متن کاملApplicability of long-term electroencephalography in pre-mortem diagnosis of Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease: A case report
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease accounts for more than 90% of all sporadic prion disease cases. The molecular MM2 genotype has been divided into cortical and thalamic subtypes based on structures involved and is characterized clinically by progressive dementia without ataxia or typical electroencephalography changes. Proposed diagnostic criteria for MM2 cortical type sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob diseas...
